  • I just installed the Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview on a VMWare Workstation for Windows 11.1.2 partition. The OS installed, however, when it starts it the the error:

    WerFault.exe

    The exception unknown software exception (0xc0000420) ocurred at the applicaiton at location 0x00007FFA3BA4A9A1.

    The dialog  pops up frequently and one cannot display the start menu.

    I originally downloaded the Microsoft® Windows® 10 Technical Preview from MSDN.  I found a newer version on the Microsoft® Windows® 10 Technical Preview.  It appears that the problem was fixed in the newer version.

    I put my laptop on sleep and the next day got the following message:

    — «exception unkown software exception 0xc0000420»

    — in «location 0x00007FF95F66054»

    — «click OK to end the program»

    1- I clicked OK — everything seemed normal

    2- opened some apps chrome, email etc. — all delayed to open, then chrome started opening in a small screen. Took more than 20 minutes but didn’t complete opening. Tried to close it, got message «Chrome not responding». I clicked on «Wait for program…»

    3- I opened task manager later and closed some apps that were noted as waiting «UWP…» something.

    4- then back to Chrome, I closed it many times without success, but then it closed.

    5- restarted my computer and it’s still «restarting» for the last 20+ minutes

    Question:

    — What is this problem

    — how can I fix it and reopen/ use my laptop now?

I am trying to install Windows Server 2008 x86 on the machine that I have Windows 7 Pro installed.

The weird thing is I tried installing other OS systems, it installs fine, but for some reason for Windows Server 2008 x86 it keeps throwing this error

Initially I had Windows x64 installed on this computer it installs fine but Windows Server 2008 x86 would throw that error.

STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000420, xxxxxx) acpi.sys — address 83AB9717

I also tried burning other CD’s and tried Win Server 2008 with Hyper-V and without and Standard version all the same.

What was I doing when I received the error?

The error occurred while attempting to install Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 on a system.

Notes:

  • The error comes up right after entering the product key for the installation.

    • It makes no difference whether I use a Standard, Essentials, Core, Datacenter etc key.

  • After this error the system resets, except for two or three times, it allows me to continue, and then proceeds to freeze up.

  • I have tried other installation media

  • I have tried doing a network install.

If you need any other information please ask. I have searched all over the place and found nothing useful so any information that you have is greatly helpful!
