Please make sure you tried the following:

This could happen for a number of reasons. If you’re experiencing this issue, please check the following:

AltStore says “Could not find AltServer” when trying to sideload or refresh apps.
AltServer must be running on a computer connected to the same WiFi as AltStore in order to sideload or refresh apps. If AltServer is running on the same WiFi network as AltStore and you’re still receiving this error, try the following:

You can always sideload and refresh apps without WiFi by plugging your iPhone or iPad into your computer. However, this means AltStore may not be able to refresh apps for you in the background over WiFi.

Tried to install AltStore several times but get this error every time.
Was in this camp too. Had to change my Apple ID password (that erased all the app-specific passwords), and it worked. It seems that, for some reason, macOS ties the app with the app-specific password and that prevents from correctly signing-in.
With today’s release it worked out for me.
Altstore does not accept the correct apple login details. Today’s release still give me the e-mail or password incorrect error.(-22406) I sign into icloud with the same information with no problems but altstore refuses the login. I deleted (revoked) the previously created app specific password from my apple account but it did not help. Only changing the apple id password helps as stated by damianvila
Try changing the password on Apple ID website then trying again on the app.
That worked out for me.

I’ve been having the same issue, also with the previous version. I’d really like to try Altstore, but I won’t change my appleid password for that.
I install the APP on my iPhone with the correct username/pass and it seems to work so far (NO ERRORS).
I login in to the application (on the iPhone) with my apple information .*@mail.com/password (NO ERRORS)
Immediately (in the APP on my iPhone) under Settings>email =.*@gmail.com.
I have verified my email is setup in Apple as «mail.com» NOT «gmail.com» so it won’t sign anything because its wrong and I get the error that my apple ID or password is incorrect. I enter it correctly as @mail.com but it shows up every time as @gmail.com. I have tried to reenter it several times with the same result.
Any help or direction would be appreciated.

This should be fixed on the latest versions of AltStore/Altserver. Closing this issue.
@TDPFlorida That is an entirely different issue from this one. Still, it could be fixed on the latest versions. If it does not work for you still, create a throwaway Apple ID to use with AltStore or create a new issue.
Issue still persists. Can’t use my login nor the app made password. Everything doesn’t work. And changing my pass won’t let me allow to install alstore on the phone too…
I am also having this issue. Logging out and trying to download an app will prompt me to sign in and the app will then download. But any subsequent downloads in the same login session will prompt the error. There are two other posts about this as well and it has obviously not been fixed.
I faced a similar issue, but for me the cause was that the icloud email field was case sensitive

I tried three of my accounts using Email and Password (Not app specific password) And I get this error. Does anyone know a solution to this?
Whether you’re on a mac or a Windows PC and trying to install AltStore, you may face errors as AltStore installation failed.
This can happen for various reasons on your side; you need to try different solutions how to fix the AltStore installation failed error. Unfortunately, most people trying to install AltStore on mac are facing such issues.

How To Fix AltStore Installation Failed on MAC and Windows – General Settings
1. Hit trust on device and PC
Ensure you hit the trust button on your iPhone once you install AltStore.
Also, please ensure the cable and the ports you’re installing on your device are suitable. Most of the time, it’s the reason you’re not able to install it. However, if this isn’t your case, follow the below solution.
2. Update Altserver
Suppose you already had installed the alt server on your computer a while ago, and you are getting an AltStore installation failed error.
In that case, you need to update the installed alt server on your computer and install AltStore.
Check how to fix the developer mode required on iOS 16 for Altstore apps.
3. Reinstall Altstore
Try re-downloading the latest version of the alt server on your computer and installing AltStore on your device again.
Ensure you follow the correct steps to install it; if you suspect you might skip any step, read the detailed tutorials I mentioned above on installing AltStore.
4. Running iTunes and iCloud
If you install AltStore from windows, make sure iTunes and iCloud are installed on your PC and iTunes is opened. Also, check that your Apple Id is logged in in iTunes; make sure you hit the trust button in iTunes and on your device.
Apart from it, ensure you are following all the steps needed to install altstore on windows; sometimes, you’re missing an important step that causes the altstore installation failed error.

New macOS does not interact with the iPhone through Music/iTunes. So I went to Finder, clicked on the phone, and hit trust. Confirm it on the phone; it’s ready to roll.

AltStore installation failed error: incorrect password
If you’re getting an incorrect password error on altstore even after writing the correct one, Type your email lower case and your password exactly how you have it. Check the case sensitivity of what you’re typing, and you will be succeeded.
After that, if you get an error or are already typing it as described above, try changing your Apple Id password and then try again. Some users got success by changing their Apple Id Password as well.

AltStore, as its name suggests, is an alternative app store for iOS devices. Many users install this store to obtain apps that allow them to get more out of their phones and tablets.
However, according to multiple reports, the latest AltStore update is not allowing users to install the store on their iOS devices through Windows OS (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12).
AltStore installation failed after latest update
To install AltStore on your iOS device, you must download AltServer, a program that runs from your computer (macOS or Windows). It is through AltServer that you can sideload AltStore directly to your iPhone or iPad.
Having said all the above, the most recent AltStore update does not allow this process to be completed. Many users are reporting that they just get an annoying ‘remove: The directory is not empty’ error.
Don’t install the latest AltStore update if you like your jailbreak. You’ll get this message: remove: The directory is not empty error “C:Users….” and you won’t be able to install Altstore or Jb your phone. If anyone knows a fix for this, please share. I’ve tried everything I can think of, and google/reddit search hasn’t been helpful at all. I’ve restarted my computer and iPhone, deleted all apps installed by AltStore, and uninstalled then reinstalled AltServer, and I still cant get it to work. It tells me that a directory isn’t empty, yet that directory literally doesn’t exist.

AltStore developers are aware of this bug, working on a fix
The multiple reports with user complaints about AltStore installation failed came straight to its developers. Through a statement, they confirm that it is a bug and that they are working on it.
We’re currently investigating the “Directory is not empty” error some Windows users are experiencing when installing AltStore. We hope to have a fix available soon.

Update 1 (October 30)
12:25 pm (IST): A user replied to the AltStore installation issue on Windows and suggested a workaround that may possibly help the affected users.
Unplug your phone, run altstore, plug in phone, choose view folder and files in the explorer when it pops up, now you should be able to sign in. (Source)
04:40 pm (IST): Support team has confirmed that the ‘Directory is not empty’ issue has been fixed and users can now install AltStore from Windows as usual.

I don’t understand i have the latest version of itunes from apple and not from the microsoft store. I also tried to log in with the created password from the apple website and with my normal password, but AltStore still gives me the message
«Installation failed
invalid anissete data. Please download the latest version of Itunes and iCloud directly from Apple, and not from the Microsoft Store»
Can someone please explain to me what i’m doing wrong…

Do you have icloud for windows installed and are you signed in to both tunes and icloud on your windows machine?
You use the same email address and password that you use on itunes account sign in you do not need a app specific password.

I am not sure but maybe the email is either wrong or the email has been used to sign apps before and the cetificates are still active?
Try using a new email address that is set up on apple?

Try signing out of itunes,icloud,altstore then reinstall them and try again?
No need to unistall them just reinstall them as there may be a corrupt file somewhere?
I have a 64bit windows 10 enterprise system i use these files and they work fine.

Please try deleting the “adi” folder in iTunes’ file directory, then restart your computer and try again.
The first time I attempted it, AltServer exited while «installing» without any error prompt. I tried it a second time (after deleting the file again and restarting) and it continues to give me the same error. The file reappears after each reboot. I’ve already restored my phone, tried a new Apple ID, reinstalled ITunes/ICloud a few times, disabled my firewall, and a few other things.
Please make sure that your iOS Time + Date and Windows Time + Date are correct and in sync. This should fix your issue.
Solved! I guess my BIOS never had its system time set correctly and this managed to solve it after enabling automatic time setting, automatic timezones, and syncing with windows again. Thank you for the help, this was extremely frustrating.
If you have Reprovision installed try downgrading it to previous version or uninstall it..downgrading worked for me..:)

Hello @halfbrilliant I cleared all iPhone data from the options in reset menu, so the phone was like new. I was using windows 7. Don’t remember how I restored all data — from windows or from options on the phone, I don’t remember, but, probably, when the phone turned on, it suggested me to restore all data from iCloud.

AltStore logs in successfully, but displays the wrong email and says the Apple ID has been locked when attempting to sign applications
- My Apple ID is john.d@icloud.com
- The Apple ID has the rescue email john.d@gmail.com
- The Apple ID does not have any «contact» emails attached except the Apple ID itself (iCloud email)
When I log in to AltServer with the iCloud email, AltStore installs perfectly and opens after trusting the Apple ID in profiles.
When I log in to AltStore with the iCloud email, it logs in and shows me the tutorial/»How it works» screen. However, in the AltStore settings, it displays the Gmail (rescue) email.
I tried re-signing/installing applications a few times and it said the password was wrong. I then logged out and logged back in with the iCloud email and then trying again, and eventually, it said «This Apple ID has been locked for security reasons. Visit iForgot to reset your account (https://iforgot.apple.com). (-20209)». Then I visited iforgot.apple.com and changed the password of the iCloud email and reinstalled AltServer and AltStore, I was able to login with the iCloud email again, but upon trying to re-sign it said the Apple ID was still locked.
I can log in to icloud.com and iforgot.apple.com perfectly fine with the iCloud email
When attempting to those two sites with the Gmail email:
iCloud returns: «This Apple ID has been locked for security reasons. You must unlock your account before signing in»
iforgot.apple.com returns: «This Apple ID is either not valid or not supported.»
AltStore returns: «Failed to Log In: This Apple ID has been locked for security reasons. Visit iForgot to reset your account (https://iforgot.apple.com). (-20209)»
I spoke to Apple support and after about a couple of hours I was transferred to a senior who told me that the reason iCloud says the email has been locked is because it is a «recovery email, not a real Apple ID»
I could change the recovery email, but a recovery email would still be attached to the account.
How should I login to AltStore and have it display/use the actual email I log in with (iCloud) instead of displaying (and likely trying to use) an Apple ID that doesn’t exist (Gmail) to sign apps?
