a few days ago I reset my computer but when it tried to boot, all the fans came on for about 7 seconds then shut off. Every time I attempt to boot the same thing happens and I get the error codes 4F (DXE IPL is started) and 67 (CPU DXE Initialization) on my motherboard. All fans are currently spinning when I attempt to boot. I have been using the computer for over a year now with no issues.
Things I have tried that haven’t worked:
Replacing the power supply.
Replacing the processor.
Replacing the Ram.
Clearing the CMOS
List of my computer parts:

Also could be making sure the RAM is seated Properly: http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=705092
Inspect the CPU/Socket to see if there are any bent pins: http://rog.asus.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-22755.html?s=55a1f5c1eecdb1a37d9e9000a25364fe
And like the others said, could be corrupted BIOs chip, was there a power outtage/blackout recently? A powersurge could have damaged your computer.

I tried that and got the error code 20 which doesn’t have a correlating message in the instillation manual.

Don’t think it’s that because I had thought maybe the entire motherboard needed to be replaced so I bought another one and the same thing is happening.

Checked the CPU fan and tried different configurations, even tried replacing the CPU fan but that didn’t work.
Have checked and rechecked the RAM and it is seated correctly.
I thought it could be the BIOS chip but that has been replaced because I bought a brand new motherboard and that didn’t fix it.

When I switch the power supply switch to on the computer immediately boots without me pressing the power button on the motherboard or my case. This led me to believe my motherboard was malfunctioning which is why I bought a new one. After installing the new motherboard I was sad to see the exact same thing keeps happening.
I am all out of solutions.

It was my stupid case. The power button was malfunctioning and I didn’t have the sense to unplug it from my motherboard. Thanks for your answers.

Go to buildapc
[Troubleshooting] ASRock Z77 Extreme4 — «4F» or «3B» — 6 beeps on startup, sometimes twice in a row. Gets into bios/windows fine 1st time, then screen *may* go blank on restart.
Mobo: ASRock Z77 Extreme4 ATX LGA1155 (BIOS Version: P2.70-15B)
CPU: i5-3570K
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600
Drives: Samsung 840 Series 250GB 2.5″ SSD, Barracuda 2TB 3.5″ 7200RPM
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 2GB
PSU: XFX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V
Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer
Win 7 Home Premium (64-bit)
No overclocking.
This is my first build — it has been working fine for the last 9 months (since it was built), so this is the first issue. Never happened until Friday. There have been no recent bios flashes/updates — I mention this because of what I see here. In fact no recent changes, asides from some Windows updates (definition update for MSE, security updates for windows, malicious software removal tool). I have been gaming only moderately.
When the screen goes completely blank (no idea if it got into windows ok and is just not showing it)…it usually displays 4F on the mobo, until power off/reset. If I reset, the problem may or may not occur. If I reset 2 or 3 times after that the problem typically occurs one of those times.
It sometimes hangs on Dr Debug displaying 3B as well, but mostly 4F.
I have tried removing the GPU and the problem persists (phew). I have also tried using only one stick of RAM, alternating, using the other dual memory slots, to no avail. So I think I’ve narrowed down the problem to mobo/PSU/CPU. All these parts were purchased 9 months ago, from amazon/amazon/scan. As a side note — when removing GPU/RAM I never disconnected my drives — that wouldn’t be a problem… would it?
It’s inconsistent though — sometimes it gets into windows fine, whether 6 beeps or not, whether GPU/RAM is installed or not. The beeps are done in 2-3 seconds. I don’t know if they would be considered ‘short’ or ‘long’ beeps.
On asrock I see no entry for 6 beeps. (As a side note, ever since it was built, my PC never beeped on post — the chart I just linked says this suggests this is bad — however I have been using the PC fine for gaming and whatnot for the last 9 months, with good temperatures (25-50 deg c), and no issues.)
As far as I can tell all the connections are snug in place and all fans are working. Temperatures seem fine too…it just decided to fail intermittently.
Thank you for any help you may have
EDIT: Fixed after updating BIOS from 2.7 to 2.9. Apparently anyway. Will edit if problems occur again anytime soon…

I am currently testing my new motherboard out of the case like I normally do with new builds. At the moment I have the PSU connected with the CPU and one stick of RAM installed in the correct slot (B2). I am going from onboard video VGA to my monitor.
The problem is when I try to boot error code 4F is displayed and then the machine shuts down. According to Dr.Debug in the manual the error means ‘DXE IPL is started’ but after googleing I have found nothing. I get no video display or anything. The machine does not reach the BIOS. At the moment all I can do is mess with the components but I’m stuck.
What is also strange is the board very rarely displays the error code 55 which means memory not installed but after trying many different sticks I don’t see how this could be the issue.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Is there a problem with the CPU fan (not spinning) as I can’t see well in the video?

If this is the BIOS then it is version 1.80? In which case the CPU should work unless the previous user of this board has bricked it during an update.

You can try ordering a BIOS chip and replacing the board’s one (it’s on socket, I think), but I’m not sure it’s a BIOS problem.
