For the past week or so, I’ve been plagued with Mauve Adder disconnects.
I haven’t seen much on the topic lately and was wondering if others are having the same problem.
I have submitted a Ticket and I’m waiting for a response, but I’d like to know if it’s just me or others see the same problem.
I’ve tried everything I can think of, but no joy.
Flushed DNS cache.
Swapped in new NIC.
Reset NIC to defaults.
Tested lower MTU setting.
And probably a few things I have already forgotten.
Some times I can stay connected for about 30 mins, and then there are times when it disconnects every few mins. Connection times are random and varied, but seldom more than more than ten mins.
I’m inclined to think it’s the servers, but surprisingly I’m not seeing this discussed much lately.
Any feedback appreciated.

have you tried connecting via a a good gaming vpn is that the same?
could just be bottle necked data at aws server relay to Ireland(fd server physical location) from your location any stopsigns on this page should tell you that and a good gaming vpn might get around that if that is the issue…………..

Upon further review…
I did everything I could think of to figure this one out — Including building a new computer.
It was time anyway as my Core i7-950 was getting a bit aged. So I bought a Ryzen 3900X, Asus ROG Crosshair Hero MB, 32GB of 3600 Ram, and a yet to arrive Aourus m.2 PCIe 4.0 1TB SSD.
So cool — I thought — this should fix it. Popped in the new mobo, CPU, and mem — transferred the GTX 980Ti video card
And viola!
Same problem
Back to the drawing board. Despite having asked my beleaguered Software Developer AWS certified son if he had made any changes to our PFSense box that does all our routing — it turns out that once I asked him to disable our VPN between my house and his apartment, the problem immediately disappeared.
In summary, I was convinced that it had to be a hardware issue on my 10+ year old box. But in reality it was a routing issue that was causing packet loss due to a misconfigured VPN.
In that I wasn’t seeing a lot of complaints in the forums, I accepted that it was a local network problem.
If you have pretty good confidence in your PC, I’d look at network issues.

One of the anomalies which caused me to cave and do a new hardware refresh was speed testing on DSLreports.com. Although widely accepted as a really good test, what’s not well known is that testing on this sight on https can causing problems. I had another PC in one of the bedrooms that had linked to the DSLreports test before it was put on https. I would go to that PC and run the test with no problems (over http link). Then I’d go to my ED PC and run the test and get all kinds of errors on https. That’s was why I wrongly concluded that my old hardware had finally given up.
Oh well. I’ve now got a perfectly good backup PC that I will find a spot for, and a modern PC that only has a slightly dated yet adequate video card.
Pretty amazing how after 30+ years of building my own PC’s it’s still easy to get fooled by an elusive problem. Always more to learn.

EDIT: Logged in and been online for about 45 mins. No problems. Everything working very well since we fixed our VPN issue. I’ll post again if I run into a disconnect.

OK, so looks like I’ll have to research how to set up / use an appropriate VPN for ED. Not something I’ve had to do before. As GJ51 says, «always more to learn».

it’s just that they are always having issues these days
the servers are supposed to expand the more players decide to play that day (which translates as more hired servers switched on)
just like they faithfully do whenever patches are released
secretly I think fd have a 50p piece slot broadband meter that they top up the hired low bandwidth ec2 tier amazon elite dangerous player slots with the more people that decide to play a kinda pay as they go deal with amazon LOL

Maybe it is just your own network/modem. Just sayin.. Mauve adder points to some kind of disconnect. And it seems you also get that using a new/other computer….

We were able to trace packet losses within our network due some routing ambiguity that was generating packet losses sufficient to cause the ED server to disconnect due to time out waiting for response. It was our internal setup that was routing packets to the wrong gateway.
We are not in a typical user situation in that we have 2 fiber optic lines and 6 ip addresses on one end and a remote end with it’s own isp using one cable line.
We connect both ends into an integrated network using PFSense at each end and tying them together over an internal self-managed VPN. In our case the ED connection was dropping packets trying to match the traffic to the right NIC. We have it configured to work at present, but we still haven’t fully figured out why the packet loss condition occurred.
There’s a lot going on with our network that isn’t typical residential usage. If you use a commercial VPN to connect to ED, it’s probably a different scenario than what we are dealing with.
Ultimately, it does look like the Mauve Adder disconnects are not wide spread as there aren’t players up in arms on the forums. These do appear to be due to packet losses over the connection. How and where that is occurring is likely due to unique network configurations for each user.
I’m not the expert in our site, but my son used Wireshark to identify where the packets were being dropped and found the routing errors. If you use a commercial VPN, you could likely turn it off and test to see if the problem goes away once you direct connect. Then you’d have to work with your provider to see if they can resolve the problem.

It’s been unbearable to play ED these last couple of weeks.
I’ve been having all sorts of disconnections to matchmaking server, transaction server, accmpanied by all sorts of error codes.
Black Adder — Once;
Scarlet Krait — Everyday, several times;
Mauve Adder — Twice;
Magenta Krait — just once/now.
Really a bummer this last update.

Had a series of Mauve Adders today while asteroid mining. They mainly seem to happen when asteroid deep mining..usually when I am working on a nice rich asteroid and the collector limpets are deployed.

This whole <colour><ship> error code system confuses the hell out of me. Not just what each code means but also why Frontier decided to obfusicate the error codes with a system that only they can understand. When my game session used to die at least it would tell me whether the fault was with the matchmaking or adjudication servers.

So does anyone have a real world translation for the various error codes we now have like Blue Cobra, Mauve Adder and Purple Python, i’m sure there are others.
Also every so often the game will just die on a black screen before showing the new dumb error code.

Got disconnected a couple of times last week… but I’m assuming Frontier is tweaking their network code to fix related reported bugs, so I’ll just ignore this issue until the new Jan patch is released. I guess we’ll be able to provide a proper feedback/report then.

Hopefully this is something they are fixing. I have entire evenings where nothing but disconnects. Other times no problem. Definitely a server problem as do not have problems with other games. At the moment it is so bad I am thinking of just giving up on the game altogether! I too am confused there is not more discussion about it.

Any word on this? over the last three days I have had mixed experiences.
Day 1: 4-5 disconnects initially and then fine for a few hours after.
Day 2: 0 disconnects over a period of several hours.
Day 3: 7 disconnects over the course of a single hour.
Mauve Adder mostly, but I have seen a few Krait errors as well. Pretty bad experience.

So this is going to sound weird, but I have only had ONE Mauve adder.
Here’s the scenario, I was playing Elite, my wife was pulling into the garage and during that time her phone and my son’s phone acquired the home network / it acquires them.
Boom, disconnected — Mauve Adder.
I wonder if these disconnects might be related to our wireless routers trying to talk to other devices…

Getting regular Mauve Adder disconnects after just a couple minutes of play for the past two days.
Swapped to a fiber ISP recently, that’s the only change I’ve made that I can think of that would be causing these issues from my end.

So Elite Dangerous has been around the block a few times, and in recent years have started their own little naming scheme for game errors. Similar to Rare’s take on Sea of Thieves, Elite now uses a colour and ship system to let you know what’s gone wrong. Sadly though, other than giving you images of a rainbow fleet of starships, the error names don’t give much away in terms of what’s going wrong. Here, you can find the reasons behind the errors as well as suggested fixes to combat them.
There are a number here which share more than one name for the same type of error. If the fixes below don’t help and you do have to log a support ticket with Frontier, it’s still worth remembering the specific error you had. While these answers provide an umbrella of understanding, the individual errors themselves are valuable to the support team for further diagnosing your particular problem. We’ve also provided guides for other issues such as users not being able to access Odyssey through Epic Games.
Epic Games Login Issue
Solution discovered thanks to: CMDR Gustavo
If you’re having an issue with accessing Odyssey features through the Epic Games launcher, it’s likely that there’s been a slight mix up with your login details. In this case, where users log in using their Frontier details, they may only be able to access the base game.
The fix for this is, thankfully a relatively simple one. Once in the launcher, select “options” and then “Log Out Machine”. After you’ve done this, close the Epic Games client and ensure it is fully closed by right clicking the icon in the system tray and selecting exit.
After you’ve done this, restart the Epic Games library and start the game again (through the library). This should then allow you to log in to Elite using your Epic account, which will restore access to Odyssey.
Orange Sidewinder
The Orange Sidewinder error in Elite Dangerous is what Frontier refer to as a “generic error” with your connection to the Elite server. This message typically refers to errors when your CMDR cannot be loaded.
In order to fix this, Frontier recommend restarting your router as well as your machine (PC / Xbox / PS4) in order to fully refresh the connection. Wait at least five minutes and then try and log in once more. If this doesn’t fix things, Frontier will usually move your CMDR into another system to get you back into the game, and you should log a support ticket.
The Mauve Adder error again appears when you are having server issues, with this one specifically pointing to an error with your connection to the matchmaking server. If this only ever happens when you are in-game with other players (friend or foe!) it’s likely that port forwarding will help, and they have a great guide on how to do that just here.
If it happens at other times, it’s worth logging into your router and disable any likely looking content filters. It’s worth saying of course, that you should only disable filters if you have a grasp on technology as otherwise you may disable important security filters.
Scarlet Krait / Magenta Krait
These two names both refer to errors with your connection to the transaction server. To fix this on your lonesome, Frontier recommend adjusting your MTU, and again have a handy guide which can show you just how to do that, available here
Black Adder / Yellow Adder
Look. I’m trying desperately hard not to sing the theme tune so let’s just get past this one. The Black Adder and Yellow Adder errors within Elite Dangerous refer to an unrecoverable error on the transaction server.
This is usually a temporary error regarding your CMDR’s details, involving either the CMDR data itself or a module within. Frontier suggest restarting the game and trying once more to load in. If you are not successful with a follow up attempt, it’s likely that the support team will need to make some changes within your CMDR data, and you should log a support ticket.

Purple Python / Blue Cobra / Gold Cobra / Teal Cobra / Taupe Cobra
We all got past Purple Python ok, yeah? These errors are variations on issues relating to the adjudication or in-game mission servers, typically appearing where you are requesting missions. To properly test, it’s worth ensuring that no data-heavy processes are running on your network, as your system will be trying to download a chunk of data within a relatively short time.
Again, Frontier here suggest taking a look within your router’s content filters to disable any which may be present, with a particularly close eye on ones which aim to filter fragmented traffic.
Silver Fer-De-Lance
The Silver Fer-De-Lance error here refers to a multicrew timeout. Another connection issue, it seems but this time one with connecting to another player rather than to Frontier’s servers. As the Multicrew and multiplayer aspects of elite use Peer-to-Peer networking, it’s important to have a good connection to each other.
Frontier’s first suggestion to resolve the Silver Fer-De-Lance error is to ensure that all players you are interacting with have their NAT types set in a compatible configuration. Those who have been playing multiplayer games for some time will know the impact that these settings can have, and for an ideal setting, all players should have their NAT type set to “open”.
Test by seeing which players can connect with which others (if there are more than two of you involved) and once you’ve found which account is causing the issue, get a ticket created with Frontier support using their account.

Уже в конце весны выходит одисея, а до этого было в начале года. А в конце весны наверно напишут, что выходит в начале осени. Никогда не покупаю предзаказы. Как только Odyssey вышла, утром смотрю, 21 отзыв и средняя оценка крайне положительная. Спустя пару часов 33 отзыва, оценка смешанная. А сейчас в основном отрицательные. Короче, эту игру доделают через год. В мае 2022 года можно будет покупать. Через пол года нет. И так довольно часто с играми от разных разработчиков, особенно если проект масштабный. |

Mauve Adder-How to avoid it
Mauve Adder is a connection error code given when «The game cannot place you in an instance, and is usually a local network issue.»
I’m assuming Frontier supports use of «Local Network» refers to their servers, as even with a great wired connection, I and several other commanders are currently locked out of the game due to this error code.
Since I am mostly seeing this error code in the Col 285 LTD extraction system, and as of this morning the Areklici system, I am strongly linking the Mauve Adder code and high player load/fleet carrier concentration.
If we as a community wish to continue playing and avoid errors such as these, we need to hold ourselves accountable for the things that Frontier cannot, and that is responsibly using our carriers, and attempting to balance server load caused by them, until a time at which Frontier either decreases the maximum capacity on carriers in a system, or fixes errors caused by their presence in abundance.
If we keep carriers out of the Col 285 LTD extraction system and instead place them within one to two jumps away, miners and support crew should no longer receive the Muave Adder error. Likewise in high sale systems, we should keep our carriers out of those systems, and instead nearby.
I understand the inconvenience that having to jump with a load of LTDs on board will cause, but think of the inconvenience caused by not being able to log in, or, in the case of several commanders this morning, not being able to leave the carrier, or jump the carrier out of the sale system.
Note: I logged in on the carrier after it had been moved into the system, had I been made aware of the attempted jump I would have suggested the CMDR instead jump nearby.

For the past week or so, I’ve been plagued with Mauve Adder disconnects.
I haven’t seen much on the topic lately and was wondering if others are having the same problem.
I have submitted a Ticket and I’m waiting for a response, but I’d like to know if it’s just me or others see the same problem.
I’ve tried everything I can think of, but no joy.
Flushed DNS cache.
Swapped in new NIC.
Reset NIC to defaults.
Tested lower MTU setting.
And probably a few things I have already forgotten.
Some times I can stay connected for about 30 mins, and then there are times when it disconnects every few mins. Connection times are random and varied, but seldom more than more than ten mins.
I’m inclined to think it’s the servers, but surprisingly I’m not seeing this discussed much lately.
Any feedback appreciated.

have you tried connecting via a a good gaming vpn is that the same?
could just be bottle necked data at aws server relay to Ireland(fd server physical location) from your location any stopsigns on this page should tell you that and a good gaming vpn might get around that if that is the issue…………..

Upon further review…
I did everything I could think of to figure this one out — Including building a new computer.
It was time anyway as my Core i7-950 was getting a bit aged. So I bought a Ryzen 3900X, Asus ROG Crosshair Hero MB, 32GB of 3600 Ram, and a yet to arrive Aourus m.2 PCIe 4.0 1TB SSD.
So cool — I thought — this should fix it. Popped in the new mobo, CPU, and mem — transferred the GTX 980Ti video card
And viola!
Same problem
Back to the drawing board. Despite having asked my beleaguered Software Developer AWS certified son if he had made any changes to our PFSense box that does all our routing — it turns out that once I asked him to disable our VPN between my house and his apartment, the problem immediately disappeared.
In summary, I was convinced that it had to be a hardware issue on my 10+ year old box. But in reality it was a routing issue that was causing packet loss due to a misconfigured VPN.
In that I wasn’t seeing a lot of complaints in the forums, I accepted that it was a local network problem.
If you have pretty good confidence in your PC, I’d look at network issues.

One of the anomalies which caused me to cave and do a new hardware refresh was speed testing on DSLreports.com. Although widely accepted as a really good test, what’s not well known is that testing on this sight on https can causing problems. I had another PC in one of the bedrooms that had linked to the DSLreports test before it was put on https. I would go to that PC and run the test with no problems (over http link). Then I’d go to my ED PC and run the test and get all kinds of errors on https. That’s was why I wrongly concluded that my old hardware had finally given up.
Oh well. I’ve now got a perfectly good backup PC that I will find a spot for, and a modern PC that only has a slightly dated yet adequate video card.
Pretty amazing how after 30+ years of building my own PC’s it’s still easy to get fooled by an elusive problem. Always more to learn.

EDIT: Logged in and been online for about 45 mins. No problems. Everything working very well since we fixed our VPN issue. I’ll post again if I run into a disconnect.

OK, so looks like I’ll have to research how to set up / use an appropriate VPN for ED. Not something I’ve had to do before. As GJ51 says, «always more to learn».

it’s just that they are always having issues these days
the servers are supposed to expand the more players decide to play that day (which translates as more hired servers switched on)
just like they faithfully do whenever patches are released
secretly I think fd have a 50p piece slot broadband meter that they top up the hired low bandwidth ec2 tier amazon elite dangerous player slots with the more people that decide to play a kinda pay as they go deal with amazon LOL

Maybe it is just your own network/modem. Just sayin.. Mauve adder points to some kind of disconnect. And it seems you also get that using a new/other computer….

We were able to trace packet losses within our network due some routing ambiguity that was generating packet losses sufficient to cause the ED server to disconnect due to time out waiting for response. It was our internal setup that was routing packets to the wrong gateway.
We are not in a typical user situation in that we have 2 fiber optic lines and 6 ip addresses on one end and a remote end with it’s own isp using one cable line.
We connect both ends into an integrated network using PFSense at each end and tying them together over an internal self-managed VPN. In our case the ED connection was dropping packets trying to match the traffic to the right NIC. We have it configured to work at present, but we still haven’t fully figured out why the packet loss condition occurred.
There’s a lot going on with our network that isn’t typical residential usage. If you use a commercial VPN to connect to ED, it’s probably a different scenario than what we are dealing with.
Ultimately, it does look like the Mauve Adder disconnects are not wide spread as there aren’t players up in arms on the forums. These do appear to be due to packet losses over the connection. How and where that is occurring is likely due to unique network configurations for each user.
I’m not the expert in our site, but my son used Wireshark to identify where the packets were being dropped and found the routing errors. If you use a commercial VPN, you could likely turn it off and test to see if the problem goes away once you direct connect. Then you’d have to work with your provider to see if they can resolve the problem.

It’s been unbearable to play ED these last couple of weeks.
I’ve been having all sorts of disconnections to matchmaking server, transaction server, accmpanied by all sorts of error codes.
Black Adder — Once;
Scarlet Krait — Everyday, several times;
Mauve Adder — Twice;
Magenta Krait — just once/now.
Really a bummer this last update.

Had a series of Mauve Adders today while asteroid mining. They mainly seem to happen when asteroid deep mining..usually when I am working on a nice rich asteroid and the collector limpets are deployed.

This whole <colour><ship> error code system confuses the hell out of me. Not just what each code means but also why Frontier decided to obfusicate the error codes with a system that only they can understand. When my game session used to die at least it would tell me whether the fault was with the matchmaking or adjudication servers.

So does anyone have a real world translation for the various error codes we now have like Blue Cobra, Mauve Adder and Purple Python, i’m sure there are others.
Also every so often the game will just die on a black screen before showing the new dumb error code.

Got disconnected a couple of times last week… but I’m assuming Frontier is tweaking their network code to fix related reported bugs, so I’ll just ignore this issue until the new Jan patch is released. I guess we’ll be able to provide a proper feedback/report then.

Hopefully this is something they are fixing. I have entire evenings where nothing but disconnects. Other times no problem. Definitely a server problem as do not have problems with other games. At the moment it is so bad I am thinking of just giving up on the game altogether! I too am confused there is not more discussion about it.

Any word on this? over the last three days I have had mixed experiences.
Day 1: 4-5 disconnects initially and then fine for a few hours after.
Day 2: 0 disconnects over a period of several hours.
Day 3: 7 disconnects over the course of a single hour.
Mauve Adder mostly, but I have seen a few Krait errors as well. Pretty bad experience.

So this is going to sound weird, but I have only had ONE Mauve adder.
Here’s the scenario, I was playing Elite, my wife was pulling into the garage and during that time her phone and my son’s phone acquired the home network / it acquires them.
Boom, disconnected — Mauve Adder.
I wonder if these disconnects might be related to our wireless routers trying to talk to other devices…

Getting regular Mauve Adder disconnects after just a couple minutes of play for the past two days.
Swapped to a fiber ISP recently, that’s the only change I’ve made that I can think of that would be causing these issues from my end.
So Elite Dangerous has been around the block a few times, and in recent years have started their own little naming scheme for game errors. Similar to Rare’s take on Sea of Thieves, Elite now uses a colour and ship system to let you know what’s gone wrong. Sadly though, other than giving you images of a rainbow fleet of starships, the error names don’t give much away in terms of what’s going wrong. Here, you can find the reasons behind the errors as well as suggested fixes to combat them.
There are a number here which share more than one name for the same type of error. If the fixes below don’t help and you do have to log a support ticket with Frontier, it’s still worth remembering the specific error you had. While these answers provide an umbrella of understanding, the individual errors themselves are valuable to the support team for further diagnosing your particular problem. We’ve also provided guides for other issues such as users not being able to access Odyssey through Epic Games.
Epic Games Login Issue
Solution discovered thanks to: CMDR Gustavo
If you’re having an issue with accessing Odyssey features through the Epic Games launcher, it’s likely that there’s been a slight mix up with your login details. In this case, where users log in using their Frontier details, they may only be able to access the base game.
The fix for this is, thankfully a relatively simple one. Once in the launcher, select “options” and then “Log Out Machine”. After you’ve done this, close the Epic Games client and ensure it is fully closed by right clicking the icon in the system tray and selecting exit.
After you’ve done this, restart the Epic Games library and start the game again (through the library). This should then allow you to log in to Elite using your Epic account, which will restore access to Odyssey.
Orange Sidewinder
The Orange Sidewinder error in Elite Dangerous is what Frontier refer to as a “generic error” with your connection to the Elite server. This message typically refers to errors when your CMDR cannot be loaded.
In order to fix this, Frontier recommend restarting your router as well as your machine (PC / Xbox / PS4) in order to fully refresh the connection. Wait at least five minutes and then try and log in once more. If this doesn’t fix things, Frontier will usually move your CMDR into another system to get you back into the game, and you should log a support ticket.
Mauve Adder
The Mauve Adder error again appears when you are having server issues, with this one specifically pointing to an error with your connection to the matchmaking server. If this only ever happens when you are in-game with other players (friend or foe!) it’s likely that port forwarding will help, and they have a great guide on how to do that just here.
If it happens at other times, it’s worth logging into your router and disable any likely looking content filters. It’s worth saying of course, that you should only disable filters if you have a grasp on technology as otherwise you may disable important security filters.
Scarlet Krait / Magenta Krait
These two names both refer to errors with your connection to the transaction server. To fix this on your lonesome, Frontier recommend adjusting your MTU, and again have a handy guide which can show you just how to do that, available here
Black Adder / Yellow Adder
Look. I’m trying desperately hard not to sing the theme tune so let’s just get past this one. The Black Adder and Yellow Adder errors within Elite Dangerous refer to an unrecoverable error on the transaction server.
This is usually a temporary error regarding your CMDR’s details, involving either the CMDR data itself or a module within. Frontier suggest restarting the game and trying once more to load in. If you are not successful with a follow up attempt, it’s likely that the support team will need to make some changes within your CMDR data, and you should log a support ticket.

Purple Python / Blue Cobra / Gold Cobra / Teal Cobra / Taupe Cobra
We all got past Purple Python ok, yeah? These errors are variations on issues relating to the adjudication or in-game mission servers, typically appearing where you are requesting missions. To properly test, it’s worth ensuring that no data-heavy processes are running on your network, as your system will be trying to download a chunk of data within a relatively short time.
Again, Frontier here suggest taking a look within your router’s content filters to disable any which may be present, with a particularly close eye on ones which aim to filter fragmented traffic.
Silver Fer-De-Lance
The Silver Fer-De-Lance error here refers to a multicrew timeout. Another connection issue, it seems but this time one with connecting to another player rather than to Frontier’s servers. As the Multicrew and multiplayer aspects of elite use Peer-to-Peer networking, it’s important to have a good connection to each other.
Frontier’s first suggestion to resolve the Silver Fer-De-Lance error is to ensure that all players you are interacting with have their NAT types set in a compatible configuration. Those who have been playing multiplayer games for some time will know the impact that these settings can have, and for an ideal setting, all players should have their NAT type set to “open”.
Test by seeing which players can connect with which others (if there are more than two of you involved) and once you’ve found which account is causing the issue, get a ticket created with Frontier support using their account.
