Hardware error 03130031-2F14 has the potential to make you make some hard choices.  This one is what we call a 1-or-the-other fix.  It is either going to be simple, or it’s going to be expensive. Sorry to hit you with that kind of news right from the start, but at least you know…

What The Code Means

he 2F14 error means ASIC register not writable (hardware error 2).  More simply put, the printer could not write to the ASIC register on the main controller PCB.  Oh, glad they made it simple for us to understand, right…

The Fix

Please make sure there are no obstructions on the print surface (lift the top cover and view).  If there are no paper jams and the carriage is docked to the right, please reboot the printer using the power button.

If the error clears, you’ve dodged a bullet today! But if the error comes back, you need a new main controller PCB. Please see the instructions below.

Option 1

It is always our recommendation to have this type of repair completed by a Canon Authorized Service Technician. It’s likely to be an expensive option, but it has the highest chance of successfully diagnosing and repairing your printer.

Some printers are no longer supported by Canon, and will require finding an independent servicer. This may also be expensive, but is still a better option than a DIY repair, especially if you aren’t familiar with electronics.

If you are going to attempt any repairs on your own, unplug the printer from the power source first, and exercise extreme caution. Electronic devices can cause injury, death, or further damage to the printer. We do not recommend DIY repair if you are not experienced with electronics.

Option 2

The cost of this type of repair can be close to 2/3 the cost of a brand new printer. In many cases, the new printer is the better option because of the new advances in technology and the new warranty.

Additionally, consider the age of the printer. New software, operating systems, and computers may not have written drivers that are compatible with older printers. This means your brand new PC may not work with your newly repaired 5-year-old printer. You’ll have to buy new anyway.

   I got a case with a pretty new (only 5 km of print) ImagePrograf 755.

   The error is 2F14.
   Of course it is easy to replace mainboard.
   Anyone had such an issue and found a way around (I mean except for replacing mainboard) ?

   PS: Forgot to say — If you turn the printer on without paper loaded in it — it will stay like that without error.
   When you insert the paper it shows the error.

   for start check if you have latest firmware installed…… ver. 1.20

   Yeah I was afraid you would say smth like that.

   I don’t know if it means anything but I was testing in Service Mode:
   MEMORY CHK
   DDR — I tried 5 times. Only once was Ok, the other 4 was NG.
   EEP — was always OK

   After a long waiting time the new motherboard came in.
   Replaced with the old one BUT the error stays the same.

   What else could be ?

   2)- Replace the main controller PCB.
   3)- Reconnect the power plug and turn on the power while pressing the [Load] and [Navigate] keys.
   (Start the printer in PCB replacement mode.)
   4)- Release the key, but not before making sure that «Initializing» appears on the display. (The message lamp lights when printer enters PCB replacement mode.)
   5)- Wait until «REPLACE MODE» appears on the display.
   6)- Select CPU BOARD and press the [OK] key.
   7)- Turn off the power, but not before making sure that «Power off» appears on the display.
   Turn on the power.
   9) Check the firmware version.
   If the firmware is not the latest version, upgrade the firmware to the latest version.

   Bad Flex Cables ???

   L Printer Tool
   When a problem on the printer occurs and an error code is displayed, effectively disabling the printer,

    Thanks so much for the reply! Unfortunately that won’t get the error cleared. We started with a purge unit error, and when changing the purge unit didn’t fix it we put the old purge unit back in. We then consulted with Tech support and changed the main board in accordance with the directions that they gave us. We followed those directions to the letter and still got 2F14 on paper loading. We then replaced the flex cable and carriage (carriage unit). We still got the same error so we got Canon to send us an RMA and a replacement main board. Installed board while following PCA replacement procedure to the letter. Still 2F14!! I wonder if there is a way to check that Maint cart relay board EPROM? I don’t see any other board that writes to the main board. I am open to suggestions and we will talk to tech support again Monday but those guys don’t care how much money we waste. Thanks again for the help.
