Getting error 0xc000007b when trying to launch Skyrim SE

SOLVED: What I did to fix it was I downloaded a program called Dependency Walker and opened the Skyrim SE exe with it. It basically runs it in a debug mode, checking for which DLL files are incorrect. Once it finishes, you want to scroll through the list and look under the «CPU» column. Look for any text in red. If it says x86, find the 64 bit version of that DLL online and put it in your C:/Windows/SysWOW64 folder. If it says x64, find the 32 bit version of that DLL online and put it in your C:/Windows/System32 folder. Alternatively, if you dont want to touch your windows folder, you can put the DLL’s in the folder with the game EXE, but you may get the error if you try to open the game through the launcher.

Hello!

I am trying to play Skyrim SE, but I encounter the following error after clicking play in the launcher, or running the game directly from the EXE: 

The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b).
Click OK to close the application.

After some research, I believe this is an issue with either DirectX or the .NET framework involving mismatching x86 and x64 DLL files in the System32 and SysWOW64 folders. However, no matter what I’ve tried, I cannot seem to fix the problem. Here is what I have tried:

  • Rebooting PC

  • Uninstalling all .NET framework installations and only reinstalling the version used by SSE

  • Uninstalling all Visual C++ installations and only reinstalling the versions used by SSE

  • Manually removing Xinput1_(1/2/3).dll from System32 and SysWOW64 and reinstalling DirectX through the web installer (these DLL’s were successfully replaced but did not fix the issue)

  • Reinstalling graphics drivers

So far Skyrim SE and an indie title called Supraball have been affected by this issue.

PCSX2 was also having an issue with the graphics plugin failing to load due to an «out of date DirectX install», which I fixed by downloading a master archive of every DLL used by PCSX2 and placing it in the installation folder, which DID fix PCSX2. Extracting the same archive into the SSE install directory (where the EXE is located) did not, however, solve the issue, probably because it uses newer libraries.

All other games are working fine, I have yet to find another with this issue.

My hardware is as follows:

  • CPU: AMD A10-5757M APU

  • GPU: Radeon HD 8650G + HD 8750M in crossfire (turning off crossfire doesnt fix the issue)

  • Graphics Drivers: 16.2.1 Crimson (the «Legacy» line).

  • 8GB Ram

  • Windows 10 x64 version 1607

Please somebody, anybody, this error has sidelined Skyrim for about two months and I’m really begging. Please help me fix it. I’ve looked at the common solutions to the bizarre and nothing works. I’ve uninstalled everything from the game itself to the mods ,to the net framework to direct x. I’ve verified the integrity, I’ve ran LOOT, BOSS, TESV Edit, FNIS…I went back to earlier points in my computers save points…nothing works. Please somebody help me fix this. :sad:

That’s a corrupted file IF you have a menu item open or  the system has an excell program that is outdated, the support for *.xml is outdated.

Looks like you need to insptect that data.

just make sure you understand every word I told you to do, reboot and run windows update as many times as possible.

I want you to look at  it in this way, the server software that scans your software is only going to scan things in an order that is made so things are written in a specific sequence of events. and if you watch the screen while it updates and installs things, you will notice that.

you wait until every last update has finished and say’s requires a restart. Windows from that point on will update it’s files.

when all of this is completed and you no longer have updates being found? the you reboot and go back to the games software and re/update the game.

Now things should work correctly and steam will be more compatible with your stuff.
