Antivirus Update Fails
Hello everyone
i have an issue with the antivirus (Clamav). I can;t update manually or automatically . It just hangs when I try manually with the databases from clamav.net, or if I try «Update now» i get Update failed. 
I have tried both with the antivirus enabled and disabled.
Is there any option to update it from command line ?

Is the screen grayed-out, and there is an Ajax «Loading data, please wait» pop-up shown with a tumbler after clicking [Update]?
Any information in the System Log showing an issue?
Does the NAS have the ability to access the Intenet, and download files by http or https — what might be blocked by a fiewall or a proxy server?

QNAP NAS does have — as an infrastructure system — no option to configure a http proxy. Consider to add an exception for the NAS as a trusted system to access the Internet direct.

I have the same problem.

3.6.1 Build 0302T
I haven’t used the builtin antivirus before.
Antivirus have been enabled, but can’t autoupdate. — Log says: «System 127.0.0.1 localhost [Antivirus] Failed to update virus definition.»
When I update manually I get the grayed-out screen, and there is an Ajax «Loading data, please wait» pop-up shown with a tumbler after clicking [Update]
It just stays like that forever.
There are no errors in the logs.

I had the same issue: «Update now» gave failure message and the auto update produced a failure message in the system log.
It got solved as soon as I could access my NAS remotely through myqnapcloud.com. It was quite a job getting this «myqnapcloud.com» working and I suppose that this opened up the ports for the antivirus to work. From my experience, I would recommend checking the following:
— Enable NAT on your router
— Enable port forwarding on your router, especially the port 80 and/or 8080 should be forwarded to your NAS
— Verify whether firewall on your router blocks the communication: turn the firewall temporarily OFF to test this
— Make sure that your internet provider does not block ports for incoming communication

There is no Internet to NAS initied communication required. AV Update is triggered from the NAS, fetching a file by http on port 80 if I’m not wrong. If configuring myqnapcloud.com made things working it’s because you fixed the NAS ability to communicate with the Internet, to resolve names, or to reach the Internet (i.e. remove any global outgoing firewall rules).

Today I have noticed multiple NAS on different networks are failing to update antivirus definitions.
Any thoughts?

@kevnapq — thanks for posting and allaying our concerns. We have the same issue so looks like some (hopefully transient) issue with retrieving the update file from Clam.

i have opened a ticket.
qnap replied me there’s a bug with the last firmware

after requering more informations
qnap told me the link for the definitions has been probably updated by clamav
and since the link is encoded in the firmware we need to wait the next firmware now and/or update definitions manually

In my QNAP it started on the 13th without any update on the Firmware. So something must have changed on the Clamav side of things…

Программа добавляет порядка 700 записей в файл hosts, перенаправляющих запросы на IP-адрес 0.0.0.0.
Владельцы сетевых накопителей производства тайваньской компании QNAP столкнулись с вредоносным ПО, отключающим обновление программного обеспечения, подменяя записи в файле hosts на компьютерах.
На данный момент весь спектр действий, на который способен вредонос, неизвестен, но, по имеющимся сообщениям пользователей, программа добавляет порядка 700 записей в файл /etc/hosts, перенаправляющих запросы на IP-адрес 0.0.0.0. По словам пользователя под псевдонимом ianch99, вредонос перенаправил все запросы на обновление антивируса на сайт производителя.
«Если вы удалите эти записи, обновление работает нормально, но после перезагрузки они появляются вновь», — написал ianch99. Судя по всему, пока единственным решением проблемы является запуск скрипта, предоставленного самой QNAP, отмечает издание The Register.
Представители компании не ответили на запрос издания о комментарии относительно ситуации, официальных заявлений от производителя также не поступало. Несколько лет назад пользователи сетевых накопителей QNAP столкнулись с уязвимостью в прошивке устройств, приводящей к повреждению данных драйверов RAID. Данная уязвимость уже устранена.
hosts (ранее HOSTS.TXT) — текстовый файл, содержащий базу данных доменных имен и используемый при их трансляции в сетевые адреса узлов. Запрос к этому файлу имеет приоритет перед обращением к DNS-серверам.

[Antivirus] Failed to update virus definitions. No storage volume detected. Create a new volume.
I’m getting this error message after a recent power outage. A search unearthed this:
ClamAV Virus Definition downloads failing
by u/lad1701 in qnap
However, not being that familiar with Linux, I don’t know the actual commands required to fix it. Also, I don’t have extra space on my 431p NAS to create a new volume as mentioned in one of the links.

Как Вы все помните использование антивируса ClamAv на Synology невозможно, тк европейцы заблокировали доступ до сервера обновлений.
Решение. За него большое спасибо надо сказать Александру Linux, чья статья https://bafista.ru/clamav-zablokirovali-i-reshenie-na-synology/, а точнее комментарии под ней натолкнули меня на это решение и + статья https://kb.synology.com/ru-ru/DSM/tutorial/How_to_update_virus_definitions_without_external_network_connection
Итого для ClamAv как приложения:
Надо скачать три файла обновления «*.cvd» с зеркала https://packages.microsoft.com/clamav/
Поместить в доступную Вам папку на сервере, потом зайти по ssh на сервер, ввести sudo -i. далее выполнить команды
cd /var/packages/AntiVirus/target/engine/clamav/var/lib
rm *.cvd
mv /volume1/Downloads/*.cvd .
где volume1/.. — путь куда Вы скачали файлы. Важно не забудбьти последнюю точку в команде mv
Итого для ClamAv внутри почтового сервера:

Hi,
I have a Qnap T-253B nas.
On the nas there is an antivirus software Clamav.
Normaly the database should be update on daily basis.
But the updates fails.
Any reason? -
What error is given? Is this pfSense related?
