Solutions
Solution 1: Install the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2012

Solution 2: Run Lightroom as an Administrator.
- Open the Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Lightroom folder.
- Right-click on the Lightroom.exe file.
- Choose Run as administrator.
Solution 3: Change the permissions on your catalog’s folder.
- Select the folder your catalog is in. By default, this is your Pictures/Lightroom folder.
- Right-click on that folder.
- Choose Properties > Security > Edit.
- Select your user name in the Group or user names section. and click Full Control under Permissions.
- Click Apply, then click OK out of all the dialog boxes.

I have Windows 10 Fall Creator update. Updated about 10.nov.2017. After updateing my Lightroom (6.12) stopped to work. I can´t open my Lightroom. If I try I get this information:
I have used button «Choose a Different Catalog» After this I get a new box: 
So, «Choose a Different Catalog». Where is it ? I didn`t find different catalog. I just finded Lightroom Catalog.lrcat and it doesn`t work.
Next I tried: Create a New Catalog»-button. Thank you, but how does it work? What am I force to do?
I have tried advices as down mentioned.

Lightroom – достаточно надежная программа, ситуации, когда что-то сломалось по ее вине очень редки. Тем не менее, полезно знать несколько базовых действий по реанимированию программы!
В первую очередь, нужно всегда иметь резервную копию оригиналов фотографий и каталога, таким образом, вы застрахуетесь от любых ошибок.
Ниже список распространенных проблем и их решений.
Программа не открывается:
- Удалите файл .lock блокирующий открытие каталога (где он находится читайте здесь)
- Перезагрузите компьютер
- Попробуйте открыть резервную копию каталога
- Переустановите программу или обновитесь до последней версии (скачайте ее здесь)
- Удалите файл настроек Lightroom (узнать, где он находится можно из этой статьи)
Lightroom неожиданно стал тормозить:
- Оптимизируйте каталог
- В ЛР3: File -> Optimize Catalog
- В ЛР2: Edit -> Catalog Settings (Lightroom -> Catalog Settings на Маках), закладка General -> Relaunch and Optimize
- Проверьте, что на диске, где находится кэш (путь к кэшу) много свободного места
- Закройте запущенные программы
- Обновитесь до последней версии (скачайте ее здесь)
- Проверьте, что оперативная память компьютера в порядке
При экспорте выдает ошибки :
- Перезапустите программу
- Внимательно изучите, как использовать плагины
- Перестаньте использовать неофициальную руссификацию
- Удалите файл настроек Lightroom
Вместо картинок в библиотеке серые квадраты:
- Удалите папку с превью
- Обновите драйвер видеокарты
- Обновите профиль монитора
Модуль обработки ведет себя странно (любые ошибки):
- Проверьте, что на диске, где находится кэш, (путь к кэшу) много свободного места
- Обновите драйвер видеокарты
- Проверьте, что оперативная память компьютера в порядке
- Обновите профиль монитора
Lightroom отказывается импортировать фотографии:
- Обновитесь до последней версии

Доброго времени суток, дорогие читатели. Не многие пользователи знают, но Adobe Lightroom использует для хранения данных каталог. В этой статье мы подробнее расскажем, что это такое, а также расскажем, как его восстановить, в случае каких-либо неполадок.
Что такое каталог в Adobe Lightroom
Начнем с того, что познакомим вас с самим определением каталога. Говоря простыми словами и не вдаваясь в подробности, каталог – это собственная база данных программы, в которой будут храниться уже готовые превью. Данный файл имеет разрешение «.Ircat». Вместе с этим файлом будет храниться еще одна папка с аналогичным разрешением. Именно в ней и будут храниться все сгенерированные превью.
Если неполадки возникли с папкой, в котором хранятся превью – не страшно. Имея доступ к каталогу, вы всегда сможете их восстановить. А вот если забагал каталог – то это уже серьезная проблема. Не зря Adobe Lightroom постоянно подсказывает вам о том, что вам нужно делать бэкап каталога (тог самого, в формате Ircat).
Что касается непосредственно каталога, то забагать он может по разным причинам. Чаще всего причиной тому служит повреждение файлов на флешке, либо же ошибки в работе пользователя. Реже каталог может перестать открываться из-за сбоев в работе самой программы, либо же из-за сбоя в Windows. Именно поэтому опытные профессионалы рекомендуют постоянно делать резервные копии данных.
Однако, если копии у вас нет, а сбой произошел, то и в этом случае есть выход.
Как восстановить каталог
Как мы уже сказали выше, каталог в Lightroom – это своеобразная база данных, имеющая формат SQL. Соответственно, его можно будет открыть с помощью программы, способной обрабатывать этот формат. Сделать это можно по следующей ссылке: https://www.sqlite.org/download.html.
Обратите внимание, что все файлы, предоставленные в списке, имеются в 2 вариациях: для 64 или для 32 разрядного Windows. Вам нужно будет скачать 4 файла, после чего положить их в новую, созданную вами, папку: sqldiff.exe, sqlite3.def, sqlite3.dll, sqlite3.exe, sqlite3_analyzer.exe.
В эту же папку положите файл с расширением «.ircat», который является поврежденным и который у вас не получается открыть в Lightroom.
Далее вам нужно будет в этой папке создать текстовый документ. В нем пропишите следующие значения:
echo .dump | sqlite3 LR.lrcat > temp.sql
sqlite3 -init temp.sql LRnew.lrcat
Примечательно, что вместо «LR.lrcat» вы должны поставить название файла, который нужно восстановить, а «LRnew.lrcat» – это название уже нового каталога.
Обратите внимание, что данный текстовый документ у вас в формате «txt». Вам же нужно изменить его на «.bat». Этот файл вы должны будете поместить в Lightroom, после чего каталог сможет его открыть.

I have a problem too, as of this week. After updating Mac OS X to 10.13.2 (High Sierra) as advised for security reasons, my LR 6.14 will no longer even load.
The error says;
«Unexpected error opening catalog.»
«The catalog could not be opened due to an unexpected error»
I have searched for solutions, but with no joy.
Any ideas would be gratefully received.

What OS release were you running before Mike? I’m guessing some kind of file permissions error, if the OS upgrade is the only thing that changed.

It was still High Sierra, but I think 10.13.1. It won’t open (older) LR5 catalogs that are still in the LR folder either. Do you mean file permissions of the Catalog?

Or the folder or parent folders containing the LR5 catalogs too. Where (full path) are these catalog files located and the path to the LR6.14 executable.

Not sure I understand all this. The catalogs are all in Mac HD > Users > mikes > Pictures > Lightroom. Within this folder is a Catalog (ircat) for LR3, LR4 LR which is all the versions I have had.
The last one is only called Lightroom, but I guess is LR6. For each of these there is also a Previews (irdata) file too, plus the ‘Backups’ folder. My last backup was 9th Jan 2018, which was just before updating the OS.
The program itself is in the application folder.
Hope this is helpful, not being able to even load the program is very frustrating.

The LR6 App is in a folder inside the Applications folder.
I want you to run the GetInfo function on the Folder containing the LR App executable, and the folder «Mac HD > Users > mikes > Pictures > Lightroom» And Post Screen shots of the Sharing & permissions section of each. Also, how much free space does GetInfo show for «Macintosh HD»?

If I have understood you right, the two image files should show what you want. Free space is 873 GB.
Hope they are OK as PNGs.

None of the information that you provided gives me any indication of the problem. It does not seem to be a permissions problem. And you have sufficient free space for LR to create all of the temporary files that it needs.
Let’s try this and see how far you get when creating a new empty catalog: If you invoke LR using a LR icon in the Dock, Hold down the {Optn} key while clicking on LR. This will open a «Select Catalog» dialog with a button at the bottom that is labeled {Create a New Catalog}. Click on that to open a new empty catalog and report back here whether you are successful.

Looks like you did not hold the Option (Alt) key while launching Lightroom, as Cletus instructed.
If you get this dialog, click ‘Choose a Different Catalog’ and then at the bottom of the next dialog choose to create a new catalog.

Johan’s assessment is correct. LR can be opened with NO catalog either as I instructed or by clicking on the {Choose a Different Catalog} button and selecting {Create New…}

In the fourth try at opening with the Option Key, I did get the dialogue box you said, I created a new catalogue, and named it. However, I then got the same error message for this too.

Baffling!!! OK, next step is to remove or rename your LR preferences file «/Users/[UserID]/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.Lightroom6.plist». This will force LR to create a new LR6 plist file on start up. (The files are named different from each LR version it would be «com.adobe.LightroomClassicCC7.plist» if you were running LR Classic (subscription))
If after creating a new clean preferences file you are still unable to open the new empty catalog file, then please uninstall LR6.14 and reinstall. and hope that we have succeeded.

The Library folder is actually in the Macintosh HD root folder, not within Users, which is also there. Within this Library folder is a Preferences folder, but the only adobe ones are for reader and acrobat. There isn’t one for LR.
However, I can find a file called com.adobe.agsservice.plist in HD>Applications>Utilities>Adobe Application Manager>AdobeGCClient>customhook

OK thanks Johan, found the correct library folder (was hidden) and the plist for LR6. Didn’t remove it, put it elsewhere. Same error, though when trying to select another catalogue, I can see the LR6 one is not now in the list with the LR3 and LR5 ones. However, trying to create a new catalogue doesn’t work either. Interestingly, I have to name it, but it actually creates a folder with this name. However, starting LR6 gives same error.
If I do end up having to uninstall and then reinstall LR6 am I right in thinking it will have to build a new catalog?

No. Uninstalling and reinstalling Lightroom does not affect the catalog(s).

Just to let you kind folks who helped me here, I ended up un-installing, and then re-installing LR, to the basic LR6, and then updating to 6.14.
So far so good, and the cat appeared again.

Probably not. Can you open a new empty catalog (see above). A lot depends on the LR version and the OS. The OP updated to LR 6.14 which was probably the step that solved the catalog problem.

Just today my lightroom classic is giving the error — «Unexpected error opening catalog.»
