When installing TIA Portal, you will encounter some vexing SQL instance errors; PLCShare will show you the most effective and simplest way to resolve them.
How do you install TIA Portal if the installation is aborted due to an error message referring to the SQL instance WINCCPLUSMIG2014 configuration?
You must disable the option «Project Migration for WinCC flexible 2008 SP2/SP3/SP5, SQL installation» after starting the installation. If you are unable to disable this option, you will need to uninstall the SQL instance and, in some cases, make Registry changes.
Instructions
If you do not intend to migrate WinCC flexible, do not select the option «Project Migration for WinCC flexible 2008 SP2/SP3/SP5, SQL installation.» First, proceed as directed in Step 1. If Step 1 does not help, move on to Step 2. If neither Step 2 nor Step 3 help, proceed to Step 3.
Step 1
Begin installing STEP 7 (TIA Portal) and WinCC. During the process, disable the option «Project Migration for WinCC flexible 2008 SP2/SP3/SP5, SQL installation.» The subsequent installation should now go smoothly.
Step 2
If disabling the «Project Migration for WinCC flexible 2008 SP2/SP3/SP5, SQL installation» option is not possible, you must first uninstall the SQL instance «WINCCPLUSMIG2014.»
Instructions for uninstalling are available on the
- TIA Portal DVD, in the directory DVDDocumentsReadmeDeutschPEInstall2MdeDE.chm, Section: «Removing an SQL instance». The SQL version is 2014 and the SQL instance is WINCCPLUSMIG2014.
- Or in the manual under Removing an SQL instance. After uninstalling, restart Windows and follow the instructions in Step 1.
Step 3
If, despite uninstalling the SQL instance, you are unable to disable the «Project Migration for WinCC flexible 2008 SP2/SP3/SP5, SQL installation» option, proceed as follows:
- Open the Registry Editor by pressing the «[Windows] + [R]» keys simultaneously.
- Enter «regedit» in the input field and click OK.
- Navigate to the path in the Registry Editor: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWOW6432NodeMicrosoftMicrosoft SQL ServerWINCCPLUSMIG2014MSSQLServerCurrentVersion
- Note the value at «CurrentVersion» and change the value by putting «999.» in front of it (for example, «CurrentVersion» = 999.12.0.5000.0).
- Start the installation of STEP 7 (TIA Portal) and WinCC.
- After the installation you have to reset the value at «CurrentVersion» in the Registry to the previous value.
Note
Step 3 is only applicable to the current operation. The next installation with the option «Project Migration for WinCC flexible 2008 SP2/SP3/SP5, SQL installation» will most likely reproduce the original behavior.
If you plan to migrate a WinCC Flexible project, we recommend uninstalling the SQL instance «WINCCPLUSMIG2014» in MS Windows 10 via the Control Panel in the «Uninstall or change program» dialog. After that, restart your computer and install STEP 7 (TIA Portal) and WinCC. If the installation fails again, we recommend skipping the «Project Migration for WinCC flexible 2008 SP2/SP3/SP5, SQL installation» option and returning to Step 1. This way, you will have at least TIA Portal installed on your PC and will be able to manually install the SQL instance.
Description
The following PDF document contains the instructions in English on how to install the SQL instance. https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/attachments/109795217/109795217_Installationabbruch_wegen_Fehler_Konfiguration_SQL_Instanz_en.pdf

{Registry};{HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMicrosoft SQL Server100ToolsSetupVersion};{REGSZ};{NOTEXIST};{0};{TermMessage30};{0}
{Registry};{HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMicrosoft SQL Server100ToolsClientSetupCurrentVersionCurrentVersion};{REGSZ};{NOTEXIST};{0};{TermMessage30};{0}
This error has been reported a number of times on the Siemens forums. Unfortunately, it seems every time the forum users stop short of saying what they did to fix it (or they didn’t fix it)…
As you may have guessed, the backbone of WinCC RT Professional is a Microsoft SQL Server database, although what flavor and version of SQL they embed in their product, I’m not sure.
Your installation has gone bad in some way. Sorry that’s not a helpful description, but it’s hard to tell why without further information, so here are some fault finding steps I would take.
If you haven’t done so already, have a quick scan of forum to see if you can find a quick fix.
If you were never, ever able to compile with this installation, can I suggest the following as general fault-finding:
A. if a working installation on another machine is available, compare the installs as much as possible to find out what’s different. You might find the compatibility tool useful for this: compatibility tool
B. If (A) is not possible, perform a fresh installation on a different machine without any other siemens software, and try to compile.
C. if (B) works, you might have a software conflict. It happens. I thought that the installers for the different flavors of WinCC check for this before installing, but I’m not sure.

Win CC/SQL server error code Hello all, I am new to posting so please go easy on me. I am tring to install WinCC (not flexible) on a Windows 7 Ultimate Version 6.1 SP1 64 bit computer. When the installation gets to the «SQL Standard Database Services», it crashes with «Unknown MSI Error Code:29» I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling all the SQL server components. I have Googled this to death. I spent an hour with Siemens tech support. They said to turn off WinCC Flexibles auto start (among other things). That did not work either. Thanks in advance for any replies. |

Thanks Thanks for the response. Unforunately the software installation crashes during installation of the prerequisites and never makes it to the point where it tries to install WinCC V 7.0 SP3. Is there a way to install WinCC before the SQL server? P.S. I am the local administrator, Thanks

WinCC/SQL error code. Hello all, Well I got the problem fixed, with Siemens tech supports help. If you have installed WinCC V11 Portal, and uninstalled it because it didn’t work for you (which I did). You can’t install the older different version of WinCC without formating your hard disk (at least that was their only solution right now). I used a Linux disk image to bring my laptop back to factory original. Then when I installed WinCC V7.0 SP3 it worked. Thanks for the replies. |
