Wsus ошибка 404

  • Question

  • I am attempting to move WSUS from a functional Windows 2008 R2 server to a Windows Server 2012 R2 environment.  There are no connection problems to the old server.  However, I cannot get clients — including the Win2012 server itself — to connect
    to WSUS.  The logs on the two machines I have been testing with show 404 errors, and the connection attempt ends with an error code of 80244019.  I have set up WSUS in a test environment, as well, and receive the same errors.  Any assistance
    would be very welcome.

    This is the log from the last connection attempt on a Win7 machine:

    consistent 404 errors…

    I don’t see the initial WUA service startup messages, so I’m guessing that based on the errors thrown, you haven’t configured the WUServer correctly for WS2012R2 WSUS 6.3

    WSUS used to use http/80, and http/8530 was optional, but, now http/8530 is the default, so if you aren’t setting WUServer (through registry or GP) with the port specified, the client will default to port 80, and it won’t get much on that port other than
    constant 404’s…..

    If you are setting WUServer=http://hvdata02, you should be setting instead: WUServer=http://hvdata02:8530

  • You will need to update your group policy with the updated WSUS server and port number. You are seeing 404 errors because the workstations are pointing to the wrong server

  • Question

  • Hi,

    I have a rather nasty problem that i cannot seem to solve. As of now I spent a whopping 2 days of work but I simply cannot get this to work:

    My setup:

    — A Windows Server 2012 R2 as Domain Controller with WSUS role installed (made it DC to have a CA and issue proper certifcates)
    — All clients are servers (2008, 2012 R2) and NOT in the domain (customer machines, not possible)
    — WSUS Settings on Clients are configured manually via registry key.
    (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftWindowsWindowsUpdate)
    — Communication to WSUS Server without SSL on the default port 8530 works fine.
    — Opening the https:// URLs on clients works just fine

    Now, I have to use SSL with WSUS since it is a security police here, but can’t get it to work and after hours of searching can’t seem to find a solution, since everybody who has this error seems to have just misconfigured the server url (missing the port).
    I did not.

    I set up everything using this guide http://jackstromberg.com/2013/11/enabling-ssl-on-windows-server-update-services-wsus/ (except the GPO part since clients are not in the domain)

    I post the log file at the end but the weird thing is it tells me it cannot connect to https://FQDN_of_WSUS_Server:8531/SimpleAuthWebService/SimpleAuth.asmx but when I open that URL in the internet explorer it works just fine, without certificate warning
    or anything.

    So why do I get this error on all clients :(

  • Oh, apparently I forgot to mention that, silly me. Of course I put the server root certificate in the local machines certificate store. Thanks for the hint though.

    Nevertheless I found the solution.

    Behold: A Microsoft Update fucks things up. I guess since I solved it yesterday evening, today I can already laugh about it.

    For everybody else who tries to set up WSUS on a recently patched 2012R2 (update in question: KB3159706) you need to do the following:

    — You need to install the HTTP-Activation server role (.NET 4.5 -> WCF ->)
    — You need to edit the file C:Program FilesUpdate ServicesWebServicesClientWebServiceWeb.config (you need to take ownership of the file to edit it)
    the following section can be found inside the file. You need to edit the «BindingConfiguration» 2 times as stated below:

    <endpoint address=““
    binding=“basicHttpBinding“
    bindingConfiguration=“SSL
    contract=“Microsoft.UpdateServices.Internal.IClientWebService“ />
    <endpoint address=“secured“
    binding=“basicHttpBinding“
    bindingConfiguration=“SSL
    contract=“Microsoft.UpdateServices.Internal.IClientWebService“ />
    <endpoint address=“

    and add multipleSiteBindingsEnabled=“true“ to the line below

    <serviceHostingEnvironment aspNetCompatibilityEnabled=“true“ multipleSiteBindingsEnabled=“true“ />

    — restart the server

    All this is necessary for everybody that wants to use SSL with a WSUS on Server 2012 with the mentioned KB installed. Good to know Microsoft!

Afternoon Everybody,

I installed SCCM 2012 in my new 2012 R2 server and I am having multiple issues. I followed Praj steps and not sure why I am having issues. Hopefully you guys can assist me getting this thing up and running.

From the WCM log:

Failed to create assembly name object for Microsoft.UpdateServices.Administration. Error = 0x80131701.

System.Net.WebException: The request failed with HTTP status 404: Not Found.~~ at Microsoft.UpdateServices.Administration.AdminProxy.CreateUpdateServer(Object[] args)~~ at Microsoft.SystemsManagementServer.WSUS.WSUSServer.ConnectToWSUSServer(String ServerName, Boolean UseSSL, Int32 PortNumber)

Remote configuration failed on WSUS Server.

Setting new configuration state to 3 (WSUS_CONFIG_FAILED)

From wsyncmgr log:

Sync failed: WSUS update source not found on site EPW. Please refer to WCM.log for configuration error details.. Source: getSiteUpdateSource

Ok! So I uninstalled the SUP and the WSUS role and had an issue. My server would boot up to core instead of GUI. But thanks to Praj steps, I was able to return to GUI. I already re-installed everything and still have issues. I have both sccm and wsus on the same serve (running it on a proliant), I checked the ports of WSUS and they are on the correct 8530. When I go to Admin tools > WSUS I get a connection error, which is weird because when I installed it I was able to see the updates needed to be approved. I’ve already checked every single option, setting and still can’t make it work.

Can you all help me? Will appreciate it.

Thank you.

So I uninstalled the SUP and the WSUS role and had an issue. My server would boot up to core instead of GUI. This is weird, why should the OS go into core mode if you uninstall roles :)
Have you set an account in the «Proxy and account settings» ?. Any upstream servers configured ?. Have you set account to connect to wsus server ?. I guess you have set to sync the updates from MS update ?

Good Morning,

Maybe I uninstalled something within the role that caused it to go into core mode, not sure why it happened though.

Have you set an account in the «Proxy and account settings» ?

My problem has been fixed. The issue was above, on the default website, I had the incorrect ports. Not sure how they ended up like the WSUS.

Now that I am able to see the updates, now I need to figure out how to delete the ones I do not need.

Thank you

Hi,

We recently set up a new WSUS server with Server 2012 R2 OS.
GPO’s are working fine, all updates are downloaded on the WSUS server.

The problem is that the update on the client side is not downloading.
When running WSUS diagnostic tool, on the client, it says that the content is not found.

How do we fix this issue?
Permissions on the content folders are configured correctly.
